As an airsoft player, it is imperative that you use some kind of ammunition. Most guns work with 6mm BBs, as that is the standard size for most airsoft guns. Although the size is relatively uniform, there are many other factors that distinguish BBs from one another.
Even though 6mm is the main size, another size that you may come across is an 8mm BB. However, not many guns are compatible with this latter type, which is why you should stick to only looking for the 6mm variety.
The main factor that distinguishes airsoft BBs is the weight. The most common weights are .12g and .20g. Each weight has its own advantages and disadvantages.
The cheaper of the two weights is .12g, because not as much material is required to make it. The drawback to them is they are less accurate and cannot go as far as .20g BBs. Due to their stronger build, .20g BBs are inherently more accurate.
Not all airsoft guns can handle .20g BBs. Especially cheap airsoft guns can only work with .12g ammunition, so even if you wanted to use the better kind, you would not be able to. If you do desire to use .20g BBs, you will have to get a strong airsoft rifle or pistol.
As stated, the most common weights are the ones focused on here. It is important to note that there are heavier pellets that can be used too. However, they are produced in low quantities due to almost nonexistent demand.
Weight and size are not the only things that distinguish BBs from one another. There are several special features that are frequently found in ammunition to make them more practical. For example, tracer pellets light up as they fly through the air, making them perfect for night games.
As a general tip, no matter what kind of BBs you are interested in, you should buy a lot of them at once. This saves you money on ammunition, as well as time you would need to spend purchasing more BBs.
Airsoft Rifles are some of the coolest sports accessories on the market. You’ll need one if you want to utilize any of the airsoft pellets.
